Palm Beach, Florida - "Ham and Cheese" House has a New Owner

Palm Beach Florida is known for its unique architecture and interior design. It is also known for its landmarks, one of which is the humorously-named "Ham and Cheese" house (officially named Casa Eleda) located at 920 S. Ocean Blvd on Palm Beach Island, which is just south of the main center of the town of Palm Beach. This Palm Beach Florida home acquired its quirky nickname by the alternating stripes of stone that make up its exterior walls (coral key stone and red brick). Constructed in 1928 by renowned architect, Maurice Fatio, who created it in an Italian Romanesque style. Originally created for an investment banker and his wife, Adele, this Palm Beach estate was christened "Casa Eleda", which is actually "Adele" spelled backwards. This austere Palm Beach estate boasts a whopping 8 bedrooms, 22,000 square feet plus living space inside/out, and 154 ft. of private beach access. This historic, infamous Palm Beach estate recently sold for just under $16 million after being on-and-off the market since 2010. This home has had an interesting history of owners, including James Sullivan who extensively restored the estate to nearly what it is today. Sullivan is now serving a life sentence without parole for paying for a hitman to murder his wife in Atlanta in 2006.
One of the most unique qualities of this Palm Beach estate is that it has an extensive basement, which includes a tunnel leading from the basement, under A1A road, to a private cabana on the private beach access. This home also boasts custom-painted ceilings, ornate stone carvings, cypress ceiling beams, and 3 elaborate loggias that open to the pool in the center of the courtyard. The layout of this Palm Beach home is structured around an open courtyard centrally located. It also has an apartment over the garage to be utilized as service worker quarters.
This overall impressive Palm Beach Florida estate is just one of many like it that has been sold in the past year. It may seem difficult to buy property in Palm Beach, Florida, but it's not impossible.
